Snellville’s downtown area is transforming with the construction of a 250-unit luxury apartment development.

The residential housing will form part of a mixed use livable, walkable and business-friendly community called the Grove at Towne Center which is scheduled for completion later this year. The apartments will wrap around three sides of the parking deck when completed.

The Grove, located at 2285 Wisteria Drive, is the largest redevelopment project currently underway in Gwinnett County. The goal of the $85 million, 18-acre project is to create a downtown area in the center of Snellville where businesses can flourish and apartment dwellers can enjoy the benefits of living close to shopping, entertainment and amenities.

Snellville city manager butch sanders says the goal for properties adjacent to the Towne Center is to see further development of housing and businesses in the surrounding areas, including hotels and other attractions that will draw locals and tourists alike to the beautiful heart of downtown Snellville.

It will provide more than 50,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, office and entertainment space. This will include a two-story market and events center with restaurants and event space,  two free standing restaurants, and at least two buildings with commercial space.

A new state-of-the-art two-story Elizabeth Williams library branch is also under construction. The library will be located on first floor while the second floor will be used by the city for educational and other purposes.

A roundabout is also being constructed at the intersection of Clower Street and Wisteria Drive. New outdoor gathering and recreational spaces will be included in the development as well.

Those spaces will include a green space with a small performing stage that can supplement the Snellville Town Green and host smaller events, and digital kiosks that visitors can play games on; a splash pad; and the first phase of a walking trail.

Northside Hospital is also constructing a facility on Wisteria Drive that will include physician offices, an ambulatory surgery center, urgent care and other Northside outpatient services that will cater to the residents of Snellville as well as The Grove community.
